New collection Rianne de Witte: ‘Sophisticated Moths’

Inspiration Moths are known for being mystical,
untouchable insects of the night, and worse, they eat your favorite garments! But Rianne de Witte uses the various elements of these surreal creatures to create fantastical prints which lend the collection an atmosphere of mystery, all the while giving it a playful and whimsical touch. Rianne uses moth images, even digital scans of oriental carpets printed with moths, for a dress or lining in a coat, on scarves and knitwear. The collection is visually influenced by nostalgic elements from art-deco and eastern folklore.Forms, Colours and Materials The collection consists of numerous dresses, wrapdresses, trousers, coats, sweaters and tops; created from organic forms, using pleats and batsleeves, combined with straight lines. Together with its colours and prints, this collection evokes a romantic, mystical and above all, sophisticated look. Colours consist of predominantly grey, warm red, black, petrol blue, naturel and camel shades. What is striking in this collection are the “pied de poule” check or, checkered motifs, antique eastern elements and moth images. Fabrics that Rianne de Witte uses are organic wool, linen, jute mixed with wool, wool crepe, cashmere, alpaca, silk, corn (PLA), knitwear of lyocell (woodpulp viscose) and organic cotton.

Rianne de Witte has supported sustainable design in her work since the creation of her house in 1996 and she is one of the pioneers of Ethical Fashion Design. She has been a member of Made-by since 2005. Made-by labels fashion brands which produce in respect for people and the planet. You can recognize the Made-by brands by the blue button. In 2006 Rianne de Witte opened her first eco fashionstore.
